Icicles hanging in a row from the edge of a roof
In short

Half of it is drainage, half is heat

Water overshooting, standing in a flat run or spilling at a joint is a gutter problem and gets fixed as one. Ice building along the eaves every winter is not: it is warm air leaking into a loft, melting snow mid-slope and refreezing where the roof is cold. Replacing the gutter does nothing about it.

What is covered

What the work takes in

  1. Fall and re-hanging

A run holding water has lost its fall or its hangers. Re-pitching and re-fixing is cheaper than replacing and is usually the right answer.

  2. Joints, seams and end caps

The places that leak quietly for years, visible mostly as a green stripe down the wall underneath.

  3. Downspouts and discharge

Enough downspouts for the roof area, and extensions taking the water properly clear of the foundation rather than onto the path beside it.

  4. The ice question answered

Where ice dams keep forming, the loft gets looked at and the cause is named, whether or not that turns out to be work we are selling.

Worth knowing

What the gutter tells you about the roof

Granules in the trough say how far the covering has worn. Water behind the gutter says the drip edge is wrong or missing. A sagging run usually means the fascia behind it has been wet a long time, and a fascia that is wet from behind usually means the eaves are not venting.

Half a day

Have the run looked at

It gets checked on every visit anyway, along with the eaves above it.
